WPC Challenge – Life Imitates Art

“What was any art but a mold in which to imprison for a moment the shining elusive element which is life itself — life hurrying past us and running away, too strong to stop, too sweet to lose.” Willa Cather

My sons in real life

Published by Kathy Simmons

I am an ex New Yorker who still misses the vibrancy of the city. I seek out the humor in every day life and relay it through my stories in the hope others will appreciate as well. I love to write about growing up with my fantastically unique Irish mother whose memory inspires me every day. Although she is no longer with us, her antics are an endless staple for my tales. I currently live in Connecticut with my husband, two sons and toy fox terrier Anabel.

  1. We have stands at our state fair that create caricatures for a fee and I’ve always been the ‘fraidy cat’ since they can make you look pretty goofy. But you have made this really cool! I may just have to try one out this summer 🙂

    1. So funny and true. Whenever I spot a a caricaturist while on vaca, I am always tempted to get mine but want to say “please if you do, be kind!” Ha ha. Think it is human nature to want to see how others see you 🙂

  2. Oh Kathy this was so perfect for the challenge and I have this smile from ear to ear – the art and the content! Are the four sisters your girls? Anyhow – you and your sis have aged gracefully!

    1. What a fabulous comment to wake up to Yvette! Thank you. The two boys, are mine. The four girls are my younger sister Sheila’s (all within very close ages but all kind and wonderful personalities). Funny how Sheila ended up having four girls – just like my mother whereas I ended up with two boys who let’s just say are also in touch with their feminine side as well as a result of my never having brothers and not knowing anything about raising boys 🙂 If you have time, you might enjoy a short story I wrote called “In the Company of Women” an account of my dad being the only male in our house! https://nynkblog.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/in-the-company-of-women-a-tribute-to-my-father/ Have wonderful day.

      1. Hi – well I did already read that wonderful “company of women” post – and enjoyed it – and thanks for sharing the extra details for this post. I love caricatures and we have some good ones and some not so good ones – like we had a few street artists do some for my boy in NYC and not all of them come out. ha!
